Brand identity for Mrs S Café

2012 – 2015

Mrs S is a little café on the Whatley Crescent strip in Maylands who specialise in fresh, locally sourced food and coffee and are famous for their amazing cakes. In 2012, the original Mrs S, Sarah Schwikkard, engaged me to re-design their logo, signage, stationery and website.

Mrs S Gold Door Signage

It was important that the branding better reflected the experience of visiting Mrs S. This was achieved with whimsical illustrations of fresh ingredients to reference their style of food and their mis-matched vintage china plates, a touch of lavender in the colour scheme to tie in with the feature wall in the café interior and the use of shiny gold on their stickers and door, inspired by the Little Golden Books they use to hold their menus.

It was a perfect match. I didn't know exactly what I wanted – but Michelle hit the nail on the head. Her design evoked a sense of fun and femininity, incorporating elements of the business that had become iconic over time.

Customers noticed the change immediately. I was so happy with that! The metallic gold signage that Michelle suggested we use was a real highlight. I felt that with her branding, my business suddenly looked real! I was so proud to put out our new business cards, coffee cups, stickers, menu, ribbon... the whole package just looked so fresh but stayed true to the Mrs. S style that people had become used to.

I can't wait to start another project just to get Michelle's talent on board.

Michelle’s professionalism and seemingly effortless creativity made the whole design experience a pleasure. Michelle is a great listener and her knowledge of design is vast and versatile.

I was very impressed by her ability to translate our initial concepts from the design brief into a simple, cohesive and powerful design that beautifully conveyed the ideas of the event’s theme.

I look forward to working with Michelle on our next design challenge.
